If America is such a bad place, why do people risk their lives to get here from across our Southern border? They are escaping the type of governance we are slouching toward. Dictators, tyrants, corruption, murder, crime and disorder are not what these people came here for.

You may very well correct in your thought processes here. My stance is to live each day like it might be your last. That way you are not paralyzed by fear and can function as we were designed to function, as free people. I know deep down inside that everything that happens here is transitory, what happens after our body dies is everything.... the rest is eternity. This is how I stay grounded.
I learned a lot, so thank you. Also I want to say with you that
Civic education should be an integral part of public education without serving to reinforce social status quo or inequitable structures of power and influence.
While searching emails for articles on American education, for an astrology substack post I have been writing, I came across this good-news about Hillsdale College 1776 Curriculum. Thank you for this.
I think my generation was about the last to get Civics, Government, US, and World History watered down as I've since learned. I graduated HS in 1966. But I also had Secterial, sewing, and cooking, along with English and General Math. Home Ec, was a far cry from the pitiful stuff taught today. A good Vo-Tech education. Computers ended that.
Computer technology can be a great medium for communication and sharing information & knowledge. I hear your perspective, and believe *how* we use new technology and *what* we use new technology for makes all the difference.
In fact, sewing, cooking, English, General Math and a solid Vo-Tech education are timeless and important skills.
The necessary skills change like the buggy whip. And cars. I learned that the hard way, learning HTML code was not my thing. I traded it for marriage and 3 boys two are now men, and each has given me a grandson and a granddaughter. The middle was mine for only 16 years, a Sociopath beat him to death for thrills.
I've known of the integrity of Hillsdale College since the 1970s when I became an avid listener of Paul Harvey News every day. Mr. Harvey spoke of Hillsdale College on a regular basis, and that got me interested in the college's approach to higher education. It's unbeatable in my opinion, and I applaud the great work they continue to do into the 21st century.
Americans’ participation in civic life is essential to sustaining our democratic form of government. Without it, a government of the people, by the people, and for the people will not last. Isn't that so?
Yes, It's important because the teaching of civics and history – is an opportunity to better understand our past and how our government works so we can engage in and influence our future. Thank You very much sir for making your great materials.
I agree with you sir, you create great content. I think the function of civics education to prepare young people for active citizenship in a constitutional democracy is left unfulfilled without national dedication to high-quality civics education for all.
I don't think I saw any actual examples of the material that I could say was "good". All I saw was you telling us it was "good". I doubt my perspective of the TRUE history of America would be so Rah Rah Rah for the great U S of A.
Thank you for commenting. I believe the word 'good' was used once throughout the article. The 1776 Curriculum delivers the good, the bad and the ugly truth about the United States in a candid and compassionate style, fostering a deep sense of gratitude and love for our country (in my humble opinion.) Moreover, the education offered by Hillsdale never shies away from discussing a spectrum of corruption and exceptionalism throughout the United States.
Thanks. But everything is a matter of perspective. Therefore I felt like I could not even say how I felt about what you presented. Not much else to add. I enjoy your perspective most of the time. Cheers!
Well, you apparently either didn't click on the link provided or didn't read the material. So, let me help you out. Here's the link so you can read it for yourself.
Of course I did not download the curriculum. My point is that the article is so general in nature, I'd HAVE to read the course to see if what he claims is true. 2400 pages. Thanks, but no.
Wow. So you read the 2400 pages and deemed his perspective 100% correct? Guys like you are funny. How you equate "open minded" with what I wrote shows you don't comprehend what I was expressing. You can stop now.
Excellent stuff, thank you!

Helpful. Thank you. Can you tell me the purpose of civic education in America today?
More than ever before, it's about understanding our roles and responsibilities as good citizens.
This has been my favorite blog post .
