I think instead of public funding, anyone who is homeschooling should get reduced property taxes (which fund the public schools in most states). In one of the districts (urban/inner city) where I homeschooled they boasted about spending $13k per student, per year, it was/is a D rated school. If I ever spent $13K in a school year, it would have been extravagant. We did do a bit of traveling, but $13K in my mind was excessive.
I agree the Cabinet level Department of Education should be disbanded. Should have been a long time ago.
It's important to note that the colleges that have resisted globohomo indoctrination the best are those who do not accept federal funding. i.e. see the list: https://deanclancy.com/a-list-of-colleges-that-dont-take-federal-money/ Likely the same principle would apply for homeschooling/private school...
The Dept. of Education is as worthless as the Dept. of Energy, Dept. of Transportation, etc., and all should
be disbanded.
The problem with schools in this country that get federal money is you have to follow the rules they give you. Schools should not get federal money! Which is why Hillsdale College doesn't take any. Grove City College didn't either but took PELL grants and the government tried to make them follow their rules. Grove City college stopped taking the grants.
If the money comes from the government, eventually their will be strings. Maybe at a state or local level? We pay taxes that support the school in our area. If they start screwing up, parents ought to be able to withdraw and get their money back.
Thank you for commenting! Indeed, Hillsdale College is an excellent example of a private institution that operates independently of government subsidy. It is well-financed with private donations. But, yes, the potential of strings attached to government funding is deeply concerning.
We absolutely need to fund home schooling. Over a billion dollars a year is given to public schools.
Public schools have ruined this land. The demented adults of the last two generations, at least, are the product of public school. Where are children being attacked mentally, right now? Public school. 90% of the homeless, criminals, prisoners, mentally ill, and perverts are the product of public schools. Racism is taught in public schools. Where else do children learn to hate Whitey, or hate other races? The current dysfunctional society is a byproduct of public schools, clergy, and media. I call them the trifecta of evil. They just gave a half a trillion to foreigners, the most corrupt in Eastern Europe, in a land we, as Americans, have no connection to. The least we could do is attempt to fund homeschooling.
Thank you for commenting. I hear your perspective. My main criticism of federal funding stems from a distrust of government and its potential intrusion with a *perverted* curriculum with strings attached if it were to start funding private or home education. And, of course, the 10th Amendment of the Constitution was designed to prevent the federal government from running wildly loose.
Get rid of federal DOE, & allow State DOE's to make decisions, as each State should have a better sense of each specific counties (rural, suburban, or urban/city) kid's needs.
I knew by your piece's subtitle, that the fed's money would arrive with a hook.
"IF" We are to be Taxed for education, which is probably a bad idea, but IF taxed We need the Freedom of ESA's to determine our children's education Choices.
Excellent Article for everyone to push to their State Legislators.
Thank you for your feedback. I hear your perspective. We need to limit government to the local and state level. I would personally encourage and prefer to see local communities or families binding together to financially support homeschool pods or individual homeschooling plans.
Enlighten me. "How does it work?" See, the only people who don't want independent education, I believe, are people who STILL, after the last 3 years, are the "true believers." Those who bought the lie, the dream, and are the mortar that holds the lie together. Public school is the reason why NOBODY understands the true mechanics of society, because if they did they would know, with certitude, that the money given, entitlements if you will, is actually OUR money just being allotted back to us, with them taking a cut upfront. See Negotiorum Gestio, thats "HOW IT WORKS." See, you already, on paper, are non compos mentis, and you need someone to handle your affairs. That is why you have others "school" you, medically treat you, insure you, etc., because you can't do it for yourself. You have no idea how the real game goes.
You are right...don't know ya. But since you are a smart ass....the real game....
That Vehicle you THINK you own. You don't. The title says, State of_________ at the top. It says, "certificate OF title." Its not a real title., "OF means copy. The state actually owns that vehicle. The dealer takes delivery of vehicles with a Manufacturers Certificate of Origin, MCO. That paperwork is endorsed by the dealer to the state before you even see it. The titles are state collateral. Facts. That house you think you own, you don't. The grant deed says, "Tenant." You don't pay taxes on property you own but once, not every year. Stop paying them, and see what happens. Even if your housed is paid off. They will take it. That birth cert. you have is actually a bank instrument, traded on Wall Street. You, like most arrogant people, don't have a clue how it really goes, that's why the society is in the shape it is. It's all fraud, by foreigners or their descendants, and mentalities such as yours make it possible. You don't have clue. Get outta your feelings, go study and holler back.

OK, I realized that 10 years ago. So What??? We live in the society we live in, for better or worse. We can divorce, and it seems we are doing just that. But things move at the pace that society accepts. a Revolution is just things moving faster than acceptance levels, and that also is happening by the Bolshevik NWO democRats. But the Response so far is of Deliberation and Dialog by Patriots. I may think this isn't going to work, but I also would wish to avoid CW if possible, even if it isn't.
Perhaps if I had an army as a General and You had a tribe as a Chief then things might be different. Meanwhile I write & post articles of others who are insightful.
Interesting. I’m honestly not sure exactly what to think on this topic. I do think giving parents options for pulling their kids from Woke-saturated public schools is a good idea in theory, but I hear you re government and public education and the problems with entanglement therein. It also seems that many private schools have a Woke curriculum problem as well. Thanks for astutely writing on this topic. Well done as always.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and article. Indeed, many private schools do "have a Woke curriculum problem as well." Spot on.
Re: "Being a free thinker." Another open and honest article. I would be curious to know what proportion of the country “belong to big friend groups, and do belong to political and other tribes.” It’s human nature to seek people who align with our values and beliefs, and share our sense of humor. And for many, a sense of belonging is more important than critically thinking through a topic and reaching a conclusion that may, perhaps, be different from the pack.
One less federal agency/DC jobs program is a good thing by any measure. Lao Tsu one said "The government is like a dragon, the more money you feed it, the bigger it gets. It will never get smaller."
From talking to my homeschooling friend it sounds like most states offer some type of financial aid for homeschooling, not sure if state or federal level, or both . I think when you homeschool you have a lot more control on what is presented regardless of what the institution wants, but all mine are public schooled, and although I cannot agree on some Democratic/woke influences being passed around the schools in recent years, I must say that on the whole it is a better education then what I can ever provide at home, just from the social aspect alone…
Thank you for commenting and sharing your insight. Yes, the article highlights Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) type programs for private and homeschooling in eleven states. My objection is to federal funding and, thus, an expansion of government at the national level (and an attack on the 10th Amendment). The idea of a limited government is to protect our God-given natural rights -- and keep a safe distance away.
Keyword: federal intrusion. --- Warning, Dear people, see this for what it is. A Trojan Horse will come in, coercing you to surrender your parental authority and following with mandating a curriculum to capture your children's minds. This will all happen without you even noticing, and when and if you do, it will be too late. Don't let this happen. Say no to this intrusion.
Thank you for commenting! Yes, you've highlighted my primary concern. Government should be limited, meaning the government should have certain restrictions to protect Americans' individual rights and civil liberties.
Sequentially, the priority should be to defund and disband the Federal DoE. Until that happens, the per student funds should be made available to wherever that student is attending (be that public, private, hybrid or home). To make this work, Congress should pass legislation barring the onerous use of mandates in order to receive those funds.
But I still prefer plan A, elimination of the DoE.
I did get a sarcastic chuckle when you wrote, "...members of Congress who care about upholding and abiding by the Constitution might want to think carefully about ....", brought tears to my eyes from laughing at the absurdity that there are more than a half dozen that fall into that category.
Thank you for commenting, John. I appreciate your thoughts.
Yes, how many in Congress recognize that the Constitution describes how the government is structured and operates to protect our God-given natural rights?
"In that case, they could be required to deliver mandated lessons or curricula reflecting evolving sociopolitical beliefs that they adamantly reject."
Absolutely! Which is why lots of homeschoolers oppose this, which isn't to say that the plandemic didn't rip the homeschool group apart on predictably political beliefs on the Flu d'état, so it might be tough to know what the jabbermaskers might want.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and personal experience. Reduced property taxes for homeschooling parents sounds very appealing.

Every six months, a government gender specialist will visit the home to confirm that student gender preferences are being observed.
Thank you for commenting. There, you've provided a clear example. And it's not even an exaggeration at this stage.
Schooling is not the same as education. Our taxes pay for people to be schooled instead of educated.
Thank you for commenting. Indeed, there is room for a deep conversation on differentiating education from schooling.
