Hillbilly Elegy is one of my favorite books of all time. Vance’s story is intriguing and moving. It provides unmatched insight into the lives of working-class Americans, particularly in Appalachia.
However, from a political standpoint, Vance’s populism and willingness to use the force of the government to legislate social change is alarming. Pornography consumption, according to a wide range of social science research, is problematic. With that said, it is outside of the government’s authority to ban pornography. Vance can promote values that will improve our culture without mandating them from the federal level.
Despite my disagreement with some of his policy positions, to best position Republicans to control the Senate, Vance must win the Ohio Senate election.
